Classical Events is a lively young company committed to new work and debut appearances, who business is mainly international. In the UK the company is delighted to achieve yet another “first” with the 2006/2007 debut tour of the KIEV Classical Ballet. Kiev is one of the greatest names in ballet, ranking with the Kirov and Bolshoi companies The resident ballet company was established in the 1860's and for the past one hundred and fifty years, Kiev ballet has dazzled audiences with its artistry and technical brilliance and developed a reputation for its excellent performance and wonderful productions. Their Choreographic School has a legendary reputation and has produced some of the world’s greatest dancers. The company's repertoire is comprised of the great Russian classical ballets, including Swan Lake, Don Quixote, La Bayadere and Raymonda, and the eternal favourites The Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty. The outstanding dancers from the company have won Gold Medals at the London Festival of Dance, Laureates at international ballet competitions in Moscow, Tokyo and Varna, and received the coveted Anna Pavlova and Nijinski Prizes. Popular throughout the world, the The Kiev Classical Ballet has performed in Italy, France, the USA, Luxembourg, Monte Carlo, Japan, India, Finland, Syria , Belgium, Peru, Czechoslovakia, the former Yugoslavia and Argentina. Conducting the 38-piece orchestra during the visit will be Aleksei Baklan, who thrilled UK audiences last year when he conducted the Donetsk ballet company on their UK debut. Aleksei was born into a family of famous ballet soloists of the Kiev Ballet Theatre, so his conducting of ballet is almost beyond compare. He is a frequent guest conductor in Japan and the Americas. The tour schedule for this debut, includes Cardiff, Croydon, Southend, Dartford, and Dorking. The ballets being presented are The Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty, and the Cardiff season will include a premiere of Snow White-The Ballet being performed in the Uk for the first time.
